"Where We’ve Come From and Where We’re Going: 40 Years of Playback Theatre"

In 2015, the international Playback community will come together in Montreal, Quebec, Canada for its 11th conference. At this gathering, we will reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and dream into the future of Playback Theatre. Like a seasoned tree, Playback Theatre began as a seed planted on the shore of the Hudson River 40 years ago. As time passed, Playback Theatre grew a strong trunk and branches, endured all kinds of weather, and thrived. In recent years, Playback became a practice serving communities around the world in a variety of contexts. Whether it is known for its theatrical artistry or for its ability to create safe spaces where people can tell, listen to and witness their stories, Playback Theatre is here.

At the conference, we will share experiences, tools, successes and challenges as Playback practitioners. We will also celebrate the present and learn about the many ways in which Playback has been a force of action and service within specific communities around the world. Most importantly, we will share our visions for Playback's future. The tree we've nurtured is at a critical point of development; ensuring its continued health and ability to meet society's growing needs requires our awareness, skills, and sensitivity.

If you would like to propose a workshop or presentation for this exciting event, please complete the application form attached and send it in before June 31st 2014 at playbackmontreal2015@gmail.com.
