Where We’ve Come From and Where We’re Going: 40 Years of Playback Theatre

2015 marks the 40th anniversary of Playback Theatre, and so our Conference program is being designed to use this major milestone inour history to reflect on and celebrate our past and present accomplishments, learn from our accomplishments and struggles and explore the future of Playback. We have a powerful and exciting program planned for you!

Over 40 years Playback has grown into a richly diverse community, and we're excited that this will be represented at the Conference in home groups, presentations, workshops, performances and plenaries. For example, some of our home group leaders include Eddie Yu (China), Cyril Alexander (India), Shirley Legum (Israel), Veronica Needa (UK), Nadia Espinoza (Chile), Sheila Donio (Brazil), Audum Mollan (Norway), Kimberly Ratley (USA) and Endel Hango (Estonia) among others.

In addition, Playback has grown in how it is applied, and we're thrilled that we will be sharing and exploring these diverse contexts through workshops and presentations covering a wide range of topics such as music, trauma, acting, and advocacy. Some of the workshop presenters and topic include Anne Belmont (USA) - Listening for the essence, Hiromi Yoshikawa (Japan) - Playback in prisons, Jenni Kristel & Michael Watson (US) - "Inclusive Artistry: Making sense for disability and disabled artist in Playback", Antonio Vitorino Cardoso Neto (Brazil) - Psychodrama: living spontaneity theatre of J. L. Moreno, Anastasya Vorobyova (Russia) - "From Contemporary Theatre to Playback Theatre and our body", and Mariana Occhiuzzi (Argentina) - South American Rythms: a musical training for actors and musicians.

To ensure you make the most of your experience, we are also planning performances, plenaries and regional hubs discussions on continuing collaborations in the present and the future. Performaning companies include Hudson River Playback (US), Tarte Noire (UK), Dionisos Teatro (Brazil) among others

On behalf of the IPTN Conference in Montreal 2015 Program Committee we look forward to having you attend, participate and network as we celebrate 40 years of Playback Theatre and we dream into our future.
