2019 IPTN Conference in Bangalore, India 5th - 8th December 2019

Rajesh of The Actors Collective in Bangalore (our conference hosts in 2019) sent more information about Bangalore and the venue as a warm up!

The City: Bangalore city, renamed as Bengaluru is one of the world’s fastest growing cities. To its citizens, the city is Bangalore and Bengaluru. Capital city of India’s southern state of Karnataka, Bangalore has been India’s Silicon Valley for a little more than two decades now. Blessed with a great weather, Bangalore offers great opportunities in business, art and culture. It is no surprise that Bangalore has the most number of Playback Theatre groups in India. At the last count there were six groups and that number is only expected to grow further.

For the international traveller, Bangalore offers the opportunity to mingle with the old and the new. With a history dating back to 1537 when modern Bangalore was founded, for the discerning traveller, Bangalore offers an array of opportunities to explore. The Bangalore Palace, Lal Bagh (a vast Botanical garden), charming lanes and vibrant markets, a metro that connects to most of the city, cuisine from all over the world, an international airport that connects to many airports around the world. Of course, Bangalore has its fair share of challenges; from being a sleepy city and the erstwhile garden city of India, development has come at a very fast pace.

Just three hours away from Bangalore, by road is Mysore replete with palaces and forts and old world charm. An overnight journey away to the west is beautiful Kerala. Eight hours on the other side is Tamil Nadu with its ancient temples and beaches. Want to get away into an Indian jungle? Just five hours away are the jungles of Bandipur where, if you are very lucky you can see a Tiger from an open jeep. Bangalore is a cosmopolitan city and it is a fusion of cultures from all over India and beyond.

The venue: Christ University is a private university in Bangalore, India. It was founded in 1969. The University is under the management of the priests of the Catholic religious order, Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI). The University has over 18,000 students and more than 800 faculty members. Over the years, in numerous surveys and magazine polls, the university has consistently featured among the top institutions in the country. Christ University offers nationally and internationally recognised undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes in Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, Law, Engineering, Business Administration, Commerce, and Management. It offers professional courses in fields including Business Management, Computer Application, Hotel Management, Mass Communication, Social Work, Engineering and Tourism. It also has a foreign student community of about 700 students from 58 nationalities.

The University campus has the unique honour of being awarded 'Best Institutional Buildings and Garden' award by the Bangalore Urban Arts Commission for three consecutive years between 2000–2002. It also won the 'Best Institutional Garden' instituted by the Mysore Horticulture Society for twenty four consecutive years including 2012. Spread over 25 acres, the lush greenery and aesthetically designed buildings make it an ideal space for learning pursuits. Although, located on a busy highway in the heart of the city, complete silence prevails in the campus and only the chirping of birds and the rustle of leaves can be heard.

Looking forward to meeting you all in 2019!
