The International Playback Theatre Network seeks Board Members for 2015-2019

6 Nov 2014

Deadline December 15th, 2014.

Dear IPTN Members and Playback Friends,

During our Board meeting in Bangalore last year we had deep discussions about the purpose of the IPTN. The first achievement of these discussions was to reframe our vision statement:

“The International Playback Theatre Network provides an independent inclusive global platform that strengthens Playback Theatre practice through connection and mutual influence.”

After that, we developed some ideas about how best to support our international members and how to introduce Playback Theatre to a wider public. We decided to rebrand with a new logo and a more user-friendly and interactive website. During the last couple of month a lot of background work has gone into these two projects. We are ready to launch our new logo and we are optimistic that we will be able to launch the website very soon. Once both are launched the board will have great resources with developing new ideas as well as moving things on.

As some of us are finishing our second term on IPTN Board in 2015, we are seeking up to four Playback practitioners to serve as IPTN board members. The IPTN board is responsible for membership services, website, IPTN Journal (formerly Interplay), selecting and supporting organising groups for international conferences etc. The board has offices including President, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Coordinator, Conference Liaison, IPTN Journal Liaison. We also have temporary committees for projects. Board members sign up to serve for an initial four year term with an optional second term. The board meets face to face every two years and online six times a year. Board membership is a volunteer position. On average you should expect to spend about 1 hour/week for your tasks.

A board member needs to be an IPTN Practitioner Member. They are required to be in contact and communicate with the IPTN community in their own area and nearby regions, promote the IPTN, support Playback practitioners, companies and others who express interest in Playback Theatre.

If you want to ask more about the board, please contact our President Juergen Schoo, iptn@gmx.de or Secretary Kerry Williams  kerry.iptn@gmail.com For more information about the IPTN, just for the moment please look at the old IPTN website: www.playbacknet.org

If you are interested in applying to join the board, please forward an Expression of Interest telling us about yourself and answering the following questions (max two pages). Forward your Expression of Interest by email to iptn@gmx.de by December 15th, 2014.

  • How Playback Theatre belongs to your life
  • What kind of connections you have to the Playback Theatre community in your country, region or internationally
  • How your English and IT communication skills are
  • What kind of other valuable competences or experiences you have for example on areas of finance, marketing, communications, event management or others
  • How you see the IPTN and its role in the international Playback Theatre community
  • What your goals on the IPTN board would be
  • Your capacity to travel to IPTN board meetings including the face to face meeting that is scheduled on 2015 July 7th before the IPTN conference in Montreal, Canada and July 13th and 14th just after the conference.

Please attach two recommendation letters from established Playback Theatre practitioners. The board will make decisions based on your Expression of Interest and letters of recommendation. We will respond by the end of January 2015.

The board maintains the right to request expressions of interest for new board members by personal call (experience, special competence, region representation).
